Mechanics arrive one at a time rather than all at once. Thermals appear in level two, eagles - which you have to avoid - in level four, and aerobatic stunts in level six. The final level is called Only Silence, after the band it flies in - the game labels the top altitude band "only sky, only silence". It is a 5,000 metre run with every mechanic switched on at once.

The game takes its palette and its landmarks from there rather than from a generic mountain range - the tea gardens, the cedar forest, the prayer flags that give level three its name. It is a specific place rendered simply, not an anonymous one rendered in detail.
That is also why the altitude bands are what they are. The climb from valley floor to above the cloud layer is the flight the site is known for.

The control scheme is a single input, which is what makes it work on a phone held in one hand. Depth comes from where and when you use it, not from how many buttons there are.
