About Neon Beats
Neon Beats is a free browser rhythm game with a neon synthwave aesthetic. Notes fall in four lanes, each lit in cyan, magenta, yellow, or green against a deep dark background. A full synthwave backing track - kick, hats, claps, bassline and arpeggio over an Am-F-C-G progression - is generated procedurally via the Web Audio API, with no audio files to download. Notes are charted into musical patterns and pitched to the chord underneath, so each lane you hit plays a real chord tone. Timing windows reward precision: Perfect (±50 ms), Great (±100 ms), and Good (±150 ms). Miss too many notes and your health drops to zero. Survive longer as the BPM climbs from 90 up to 160. Chain combos to hit the 8x multiplier and watch your score rocket. High scores are saved locally and synced to the global leaderboard when signed in. Six achievements reward everything from your first Perfect note to a 50-combo streak and a 50,000-point run. How to Play Neon Beats
First time here? The menu opens on Start Training - a short, no-fail guided run that shows you where the hit line is, which control plays which lane on your device, and how to time a tap. You can skip it and it is always available again from How to Play. In a normal run, four lanes of notes fall from the top of the screen. Tap the lane (or press D/F/J/K) exactly when a note reaches the hit zone at the bottom. Perfect hits score the most and restore health; Good hits score less; misses drain health. Build combos to multiply your score up to 8x. The BPM increases every 30 seconds - how long can you survive?

How does the scoring work?
Each note hit scores base points multiplied by your current combo multiplier (1x, 2x, 4x, or 8x at 0, 10, 25, and 50-note combos). Perfect hits score more than Great or Good hits. Missing a note resets your combo to zero and costs 7 health. Back-to-back misses within 800 ms only cost health once, so one fumbled run of notes will not instantly end you.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. Neon Beats is designed for both mobile portrait and desktop landscape. On mobile, tap each of the four colour-coded lanes. On desktop, use the D, F, J, and K keys.
What is the input latency offset in Settings?
Different devices and browsers have different audio output delays. The latency offset (in milliseconds) shifts the hit window earlier or later so notes feel perfectly in sync on your specific setup.
How high does the BPM go?
The BPM starts at 90 and increases by 5 every 30 seconds, capping at 160 BPM. The game ends when your health reaches zero from too many misses.
Is there a tutorial for new players?
Yes. First-time players land on a training mode instead of a live run. It walks through the hit line, makes you trigger all four lanes once, then runs slow 72 BPM drills with a metronome and per-hit coaching that tells you whether you were early, late or perfect. Nothing in training affects health, score or the leaderboard, and it adapts its wording to your device - keyboard players are taught D/F/J/K, touch players are shown where to tap.
